The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the Special Court's order granting bail to 2G spectrum case accused Mr R.K. Chandolia, who was the private secretary to the then Telecom Minister, Mr A. Raja.
The High Court said in case Mr Chandolia has not been released on bail, there shall be a stay against the operation of the Special Court's order. But Mr Chandolia was released from Tihar jail on Thursday evening following the Special Court's order. He was in Tihar jail since February 1.
The High Court had taken suo motu cognisance of certain reports which stated that granting bail to Mr Chandolia would impact the bail plea of former Telecom Secretary and accused Mr Siddharth Behura. The High Court had reserved its order on Mr Behura's bail application.
Deciding to look into whether the Special Court's order granting bail to Mr Chandolia was proper or unreasonable considering the allegations against him, the High Court issued notices to the CBI and Mr Chandolia. It will take up the matter on December 7.
The Special Court in its bail order said, “Mr Chandolia was only the private secretary to the then Telecom Minister Mr Raja and was not having any independent powers on his own.”
