The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, today sanctioned major schemes for old city during the Rachabanda programme and mentioned that Rs 1,000 crore will be spent towards houses for slum dwellers under the Rajiv Awas Yojana.

Participating in the Rachabanda programme at Hafiz Baba Nagar, Mr Reddy assured that Rs 20 crore will be released to the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority for old city development works.

During the visits, he said a 30 acre site (Baba Sharfuddin Dargah land) will be allotted for the construction of a new Haj House near Shamshabad Airport and mentioned that a National Academy of Construction Training Centre will come up in the old city.

The Chief Minister called for peace and communal harmony, which was the hallmark of the city for the last hundreds of years. The 100-days mission development plan for the city is now in progress taking up development works.

He explained about the Metro Rail Project and asked the people, especially traders, to cooperate during its implementation and assured they will be given the best compensation package.

The Rachabanda programme is aimed at taking the administration to the doorstep of the people. It is expected to provide benefits to people and entails an investment of Rs 2,500 crore. About Rs 439 crore will be given towards ‘pavala vaddi' dues.

He said women self-elp groups created a world record by availing themselves of Rs 26,000 crore bank loans since the last six years.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to immediately process applications and representation received from the people during the Rachabanda programme.
