The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has requested the Centre to direct Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) and Reliance Industries to supply re-gasified liquid natural gas (RLNG) to independent power producers in the State.

The Chief Minister, in a letter to the Union Minister for Petroleum, Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, said 2.5 million metric standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) of RNLG should be supplied to the State.

He also requested the Union Minister to direct the officials to permit swapping of the RLNG from the Reliance D-6 well.

The supply of RLNG was essential for the State to generate an additional 500 MW of power needed for providing seven hours power to rabi besides stabilising supply to domestic and industrial sector, he said.

Drinking water schemes

In a review meeting with officials here on Sunday, the Chief Minister also directed APTransco to give priority to drinking water schemes and ensure uninterrupted power supply between 6p.m. and 6a.m in view of the various examinations current under way in the State.

The power supply in the State is currently at 257.2 MUs a day as against 231MUs a day during the corresponding period last year.

The peak demand was at 11,700 MW as against 10,500 MW last year, registering an increase of 11 per cent, the officials said.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that currently there was a shortfall of 675 MW (16 MUs a day) due to several technical reasons in the power generating stations of the State.

Due to advance planning, the State could book the transmission corridor so that Andhra Pradesh power utilities can avail themselves of 1,000 MW of power from outside the grid.

By the purchase of power at Rs 5a unit against the prevailing market power tariff of Rs 10, about Rs 650 crore was saved, officials said.
