Attention of the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India has been drawn to the reports appearing in a section of the media regarding audit being undertaken by the Indian Audit and Accounts Department of the Department of Space.
The news item gives the impression as if our audit has been finalised.
This office clarifies that audit of certain activities of the Department of Space is under way.
Very preliminary queries have been raised which are yet to be replied by that department.
Since the audit is at a preliminary stage, it can by no stretch of imagination, be concluded that information as given in the media reports are findings of this department.
The CAG's statement officially acknowledges what was reported in this paper on February 6 - that the CAG inquiry is at a preliminary stage. The newspaper did not say it was final.
