The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is “match-ready”. The India-Australia practice match on Sunday will be treated as a World-Cup game, said Mr Anil Kumble, President, Karnataka State Cricket Association. The association will host five matches including the India-England tie which was shifted from Eden Gardens because of its unpreparedness.

As the countdown to World Cup 2011 begins, the stadium is being giving the final touches. While painting is still on, functionally the “stadium will be ready on the 9th”, said Mr Kumble.

The players' dressing room has got a facelift. The seats for members have also been spruced up. Electronic scoreboards have been placed for “easy viewing”. Other facilities for spectators include “top-class catering” and “clean” toilets. All security concerns of the International Cricket Council have also been addressed, assured Mr Kumble.

As for ticket sales, the association president is hoping for a “sizeable” crowd during the India games. “We are looking at combos and discounts. But March being exam-time, it makes it difficult to attract students,” he said.

The Indian team is expected to arrive in Bangalore in a couple of days, with a day-night practice match against Australia scheduled on February 13. “We are treating it like a World Cup game and expect the stadium to fill up on Sunday,” said Mr Kumble.
