The garment manufacturers who are pitching for removal of 10 per cent excise duty on readymade garments, will again observe a two-day nationwide strike from Monday.
Around two lakh garment makers in New Delhi, Tirupur, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore have decided to close their units on Monday and Tuesday, as talks with the Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, for roll back of duty have remained inconclusive. “We already met the Finance Minister twice but nothing has come from his side till date,” Intimate Apparel Association of India (IAAI) President, Mr Rakesh Grover, told PTI.
IAAI is an association of about 500 manufacturers and retailers of intimate apparels.
Mr Grover said that all manufacturers will gather at Ram Lila Maidan here followed by a peace march towards Jantar Mantar.
