The Kerala State Women's Development Corporation will set up a Virtual Gender Resource Centre, a 24X7 facility that would double up as a Web-based job portal for women.

“There is no dearth for job opportunities for women; the real challenge before us is to get them equipped and make them employable,” he said while speaking at a function organised by the Trivandrum Management Association to commemorate Women's Day.

BIGGER CHALLENGE

Empowerment of educated women at the grassroots level and ensuring them high income-generating job opportunities is a bigger challenge than before, Mr Sunish said.

He cited the example of ‘Reach' (Resource Enhancement Academy for Career Heights), an initiative of the corporation that aims at fine-tuning the attitudes and skills of educated and career-oriented women and boosting their self-confidence and perseverance skills.

Mr Sunish also announced that the KSWDC is undergoing a branding exercise, as part of which, a theme song and a short film are being canned at the hands of McCann Erickson. The theme song will feature famous women personalities of Kerala origin who have excelled in different areas ranging from sports, culture, law and order, bureaucracy to business.

The initial rushes of the theme song were screened at the venue of the Trivandrum Management Association function.

In his presidential address, Dr M. I. Sahadulla, President of the association, said the planning process must attach high priority for improving social infrastructure for inclusive growth and empowerment of women.

The association will be chalking out adding new projects and programmes towards this end in future.

It will seek to associate with the Government at various levels and the local self-government authorities in this effort, he added.
