The national space agency has announced April 20 as the launch date of Resourcesat-2, an advanced Earth observation satellite to study natural resources.

The 1206-kg satellite comes up for launch at Sriharikota after many months of uncertainty and delay, during which ISRO came under public glare for the S-band spectrum scam.

A release said preparations were going on at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, to launch Resourcesat-2 aboard the PSLV-C16 at 10.12 a.m. The rocket will also put in orbit two microsatellites, Youthsat and Singapore’s X-Sat. The Launch Authorisation Board would meet on April 16 to review the readiness of all the systems before giving the green signal. Countdown will begin on April 18.

The 92-kg Youthsat is a joint Indo-Russian satellite for stellar and atmospheric studies. The 105-kg X-SAT meant for imaging applications is built by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

The three satellites have been integrated with the launcher and further vehicle checkout operations and rehearsal procedures will be carried out in the next few days, the release said.
