On whether India's trade with Japan was hit by the recent earthquake and tsunami, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, said the impact of the natural disaster on bilateral trade was not of an enormous magnitude.
He added that “whatever small losses” has been incurred by traders would soon be covered up with Japan's economic recovery.
Owing to the natural disaster, implementation of the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has been delayed. The aim is to more than double the bilateral trade to $25 billion by 2015.
Mr Sharma also said the Government will shortly put in place a strategy to double India's overall exports to $450 billion by 2014.
