In the past seven years, the UPA has walked an “impressive distance”, said the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, while releasing the United Progressive Alliance's ‘Report to the People 2010-11'.

Dr Singh, however, admitted that there was still a “long way to go in banishing poverty and providing productive, gainful employment to all”.

The occasion was the UPA-II's completion of two years in power in its second term on Sunday. Among the various achievements, the report highlights an overall 8.5 per cent growth rate, 5.4 per cent growth in agriculture, 8.1 per cent in industry and 9.6 per cent in services.

It said several steps had been taken to address the problem of food inflation, including selective ban on exports and future trading in foodgrains.

The National Food Security Mission had led to substantial increases in the production of wheat, rice and pulses, it added.
