Ahmedabad-based Wagh Bakri Tea Group is on an expansion drive and has plans to set up a packaging unit in Dubai in addition to launching its second factory in Gujarat in around six months' time. Mr Parag Desai, Executive Director, said that the Group was consolidating its business in the five tea drinking States in which it had a presence. “The second factory will increase our present capacity by 30 per cent,” he said. The investment in this factory will be Rs 25-30 crore, he said. The Dubai plant will help the Rs 600-crore Group increase its exports. “Our present exports are 3-5 per cent of our volume. We plan to package tea imported from other countries from our Middle East plant,” Mr Desai said as the import duty in India made importing unviable.
