Some 25 per cent of 12.37 lakh kg offered for Sale No: 15 Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction remained unsold despite prices crashing to an average of ₹77.72 a kg – the lowest this year, except for the first two auctions in January.
For the second consecutive week, Homedale Tea Factory was the only one to fetch a high price of ₹200 a kg in CTC market.
Its Pekoe dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the dust auction and the entire CTC market. GLT Enterprises bought it for ₹203 a kg. Its Broken Orange Pekoe fannings grade, also auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the leaf market fetching ₹201.
Darmona Estate got ₹193 and Vigneshwar Estate got ₹170. In all, 57 marks got ₹125 and more.
Kairbetta topped orthodox teas from corporate sector fetching ₹245 followed by Chamraj and Kodanad ₹241 each and Havukal ₹233. In all, 44 marks got ₹125 and more.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹50-54 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-160 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹50-62 for plain dusts and ₹110-160 for brighter liquoring dusts.
There was some purchase for Pakistan in wide range ₹68-112 a kg.
