The post-pooja auction of Coonoor Tea Trade Association took place amidst thin business activities in the North. There were no takers for 36 per cent of the offer resulting in teas worth ₹4.44 crore remaining unsold in Sale No: 41.
Kodanad clonal Broken Orange Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped not only the orthodox sale but the entire market when Kushal Tea Co bought it for ₹245 a kg. Kairbetta got ₹240, Chamraj ₹233, Havukal ₹224 and Highfield Estate ₹201. In all, 44 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Among CTC teas, Homedale Estate and Deepika Supreme topped at ₹188 a kg followed by Navilkal Estate ₹187 and Crosshill Estate ₹180. In all, 42 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹43-52 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-140 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹44-52 for plain dusts and ₹120-185 for brighter liquoring dusts.
The warning of Indian Government to Pakistan regarding the continuous exchange of fire at the border dampened tea shipments to that country and there were only selective purchases in the range of ₹52-85 a kg. There was buying for the CIS in a wide range of ₹48-131.
