About 90 per cent of the five-week low offer of 18.53 lakh kg at Sale No: 29 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions was sold with prices raising Rs 2 a kg over the previous week.

Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market at Rs 148 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 142, Shanthi Supreme Rs 138 and, Darmona Estate and Professor Rs 131 each. In all, 86 marks got Rs 100 and more.

Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj got Rs 200, Curzon Rs 180, Mailoor Rs 165, Kairbetta Rs 161, Havukal and Corsley Rs 156 each and Highfield Estate Rs 155. In all, 31 marks got Rs 100 and more.

“Whole leaf orthodox grades were dearer by Rs 5-10 a kg. CTC leaf market oscillated up and down Rs 2-3. Orthodox leaf eased Rs 1-3. CTC leaf market was dearer by Rs 3-4”, an auctioneer told Business Line.

On the export front, Pakistan bought selectively in a wide range Rs 60-90 a kg and the CIS, Rs 67-82. There was some purchase for European ports at Rs 70-92.

Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 58-64 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 100-130 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 61-67 for plain dusts and Rs 100-140 for brighter liquoring dusts.
