The turnover of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions increased by 9.31 per cent in calendar 2011 over 2010, says an analysis of Market Reports. The increased earning lay spread among manufacturers, farmers, warehouse keepers, brokers, dealers and workers.
In each of these two years, 51 auctions were conducted. In 2011, totally, 5.27 crore kg were sold against 4.61 crore kg in 2010. The average prices increased to Rs 63.38 a kg from Rs 61.11. Turnover increased by Rs 28.46 crore to Rs 334.01 crore from Rs 305.55 crore. The turnover fell Rs 23.28 crore in 2010 compared with 2009.
The turnover continued to be lower than the previous year in the first half of 2011. Till May end, turnover was Rs 2.30 crore less than last year, despite an increase in price, because of lower volume sold.
