Spot turmeric prices decreased at the markets in Erode as only poor quality produce arrived for sale. “At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric decreased by ₹1,481 a quintal on Tuesday. Similarly, the price of root variety too was down by ₹630.
Of the 270 bags of turmeric that arrived, 196 were sold”, said Krishnamurthy, a trader. Totally, in all the four markets, 1,800 bags were put up for sale and 50 per cent of them were sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,855-8,179 a quintal; the root variety fetched ₹5,389-7,289.
