Prices of several varieties of tea at Kochi auction continued to witness a declining trend with lot of withdrawals due to lack of bids.

The market for select best in CTC dust grade barely remained steady, while others were irregular and lower by ₹3 to ₹7 and more as the sale progressed following quality.

In sale no 19, the quantity on offer in CTC grade was 12,96,500, which was low compared to last week. The demand was fair with 74 per cent getting sold. Exporters confined to medium and plainer varieties, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

With less demand, the quantity on offer in Orthodox grade was also at 14,500 kg. The market witnessed lot of withdrawals and exporters absorbed a small quantity.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹90-134, mediums fetched ₹72-105 and plain grades stood at ₹57-65.

Leaf sale also witnessed a downward trend despite good arrivals in Orthodox grade at 173,000 kg. However, the market for select best Highgrown Brokens, Whole Leaf and Fannings barely remained steady.

Demand for CTC leaf was less at 81,000 kg. The market for Good Liquoring teas barely remained steady. Others were irregular and lower by ₹5 to ₹7 and also witnessed heavy withdrawals. Upcountry and Kerala buyers were the mainstay in the market, while exporters were subdued.

In the dust category, Injipara SRD quoted the best prices of ₹166 followed by Manalaar SFD at ₹146. In leaf varieties, Chamraj FOP (Sup) Green tea and P’s Woodlands Hyson Green Tea fetched the best prices of ₹301 followed by Chamraj OPat ₹235.
