It was a dream come true for the coconut farmers in Pollachi when a five-member team from Thailand visited some of the gardens in this region to understand the management practices.
The team from CP Group, Thailand, had come over looking for a joint venture with the farmers in the Pollachi belt. Coconut Development Board had arranged the visit.
T Balasudhahari, Deputy Director, Coconut Development Board, told BusinessLine that the visiting delegation were impressed with the cultivation practices followed by farmers in this region.
“This is their first visit, but we foresee many more such visits not just from people in Thailand, but Japan and other countries in the coming days.”
About 20 people took part in the discussion earlier in the day, before taking the delegation on farm visit.
“After assessing the quality of the nut, they were quite convinced that the average weight of the nut was far better than the ones available in Thailand,” she said, adding, “they visited some of the gardens in Kerala, held discussions with members of Coconut Producer Company and were keen to tap the potential of neera . Since there is no neera in TN, they evinced interest in the quality of the nuts.”
