The arrival and sale of turmeric increased in Erode on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday, 4,000 bags of turmeric arrived for sale. Of this only fifty per cent stocks were sold, as the traders preferred medium and fine variety turmeric. Only 30 bags of Salem Turmeric arrived and all the bags were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of the root variety was up ₹200 a quintal in the Regulated Market Committee while that of the finger variety was up ₹50.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety turmeric was sold at ₹4,823-7,789 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,719-6,816. Of the arrival of 863 bags, 258 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,349-7,689; the root variety ₹6,189-7,113. All the 313 bags were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹6,151-7,589 and the root variety ₹6,099-6,899. Of the 1,062 bags placed for sale, 915 were sold.
