Spot turmeric prices at Erode markets decreased on Monday due to poor upcountry demand. “On Monday, the prices decreased from the ₹10,000/quintal mark. Prices were down in futures also as there was no fresh demand for the spice,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Monday, 4,990 bags arrived for sale, but only fifty per cent was sold. Regarding the price, the finger variety decreased by ₹300 a quintal and the root variety by ₹200.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric traded at ₹6,408-10,149 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,899-9,308. Of the arrival of 1,727 bags, 870 were sold.
