With Arunachal Pradesh Government attaching top priority to rubber and tea cultivation by allotting Rs 10 crore and Rs 5 crore in the 2013-14 Budget, Rubber Board of India chairperson Sheela Thomas will arrive here on a three-day visit to the State.

She will attend the first awareness workshop on rubber cultivation, being organised by the Trade and Commerce Department in collaboration with the Agro Gramin United (AGUN), on April 7.

“Thomas, invited by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, would discuss the secret behind the success of high-yielding rubber in Kerala and Tripura,” AGUN Chairman Likha Maj said.

Block cultivation is the key behind the success of the cash crop as propagated by the Rubber Board with the formula of 50 per cent funding by the board, 40 per cent by the State Government and 10 per cent contribution by farmers.

During her meeting with the Chief Minister, Thomas is likely to take up the block cultivation formula adopted in other parts of the country to ensure huge success, Maj said.
