The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) here has signed an agreement for research and cooperation with the Nebraska University Medical Centre (NUMC), Omaha .
The agreement would be for three years. Potential areas of collaborative research will be identified and pursued. To start with, the two major Institutions would foster eye research activity in India. The agreement was signed by Dr Ch Mohan Rao, Director, CCMB, and Dr Donald S. Leuenberger, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Iqbal Ahmed, Opthalmology and Visual Sciences of NUMC.
According to a press release, the Nebraska Research Foundation is also committed to such activity and there is every possibility to take up research in molecular understanding of diabetes, pancreatic cancers, translational research and applications of stem cells in eye disease.
The conditions of financing of joint projects and exchanges of researchers and students would be determined for each case individually. A combined scientific meeting of scientists from both CCMB and NUMC would be organised soon for formulate areas and projects, the release added.
