More than 1,000 Bangladesh-bound coal-laden trucks were stranded along the Jowai-Dawki road after officials at International custom station here denied them permission to cross the border.
“The trucks have been barred from crossing the border following a Supreme Court order banning trucks to carry a load limit beyond 9 tonnes,” Customs officials at Dawki International Land Custom Station told PTI.
More than 500 trucks cross over to Bangladesh during peak export seasons and one tonne of coal is sold at $50 in Bangladesh.
The trucks will have to either offload excess coal or remain stranded in the highway, the official said.
Meanwhile, the stranded trucks have caused a lot of hardship to the passenger vehicles which were also stranded.
