Inflation based on the consumer price index (CPI) for industrial workers rose 8.43 per cent in July, marginally lower than June's annual rise of 8.62 per cent. This was largely as food inflation at the consumer level showed signs of easing. Government data showed on Tuesday that the inflation based on the Food Index was 6.25 per cent in July 2011 as compared with 6.91 per cent in June 2011.
The CPI for industrial workers rose four points to 193 in July, the data showed. The wholesale price index-based inflation, the most widely watched gauge of prices, had risen an annual 9.22 per cent in July, driven by higher manufactured goods prices.
