India's IT/Business Process Outsourcing sector contributed to the highest increase in employment figures, says the Economic Survey, noting that there has been an upward trend in employment since July 2009.
A comparison of the results of the last four quarterly surveys done by the Labour Bureau (September 2010 over September 2009) shows that overall employment has increased by 12.96 lakh, with the highest increase of 9.36 lakh in IT/BPO sector, notes the Survey.
The automobiles sector (1.15 lakh), metals (0.99 lakh), textile sector (0.79 lakh), and gems and jewellery (0.39 lakh) are other big job creators.
“The country has been able to withstand the adverse impact of the global crisis and generate employment since July 2009,” concludes the Survey.
