Domestic airlines flew 50.08 lakh passengers in October this year, an almost 10 per cent increase over the 45.55 lakh passengers carried by them in the same period last year.
The break-up
According to Directorate-General of Civil Aviation data, IndiGo, which had a market share of 30.2 per cent, having flown 15.10 lakh passengers, retained the top spot, followed by SpiceJet with a market share of 20 per cent, having flown 10.02 lakh passengers.
Air India (domestic) and Jet Airways flew 9.19 lakh passengers each and had a market share of 18.4 per cent.
Jet Airways’ market share will increase to 23.8 per cent if the 5.4 per cent market share of its low-cost arm, JetLite, is added. The DGCA data show the two airlines as separate entities.
The Andhra Pradesh-based regional airline Air Costa flew 4,000 passengers during the month. The airline began commercial operations on October 14 with flights between Vijayawada to Bangalore. ashwini.phadnis@thehindu.co.in
