With the installation of Instrument Landing System at Ahirwan airport here, the flight service on Kanpur-Kolkata route is set to start from April 27.
“The flight service from Kanpur to Kolkata will start from April 27,” the local MP and Union Coal Minister, Mr Sriprakash Jaiswal, said here adding that “Kanpur is an industrial city and there was a long pending demand from the business class to start a flight on this route.”
Efforts will also be made to start flights to other major cities across the country, he said.
Earlier, flight service from Kanpur was operational only to Delhi but it was irregular during winter season due to low visibility and landing on the airport was possible only during the day when the visibility is around 2000 metres.
Instrument Landing System will enable the landing of aircraft in poor visibility conditions and thereby avoiding cancellations and delays, the airport in-charge, Mr P.K. Jha, said.
