The Bengalore International Airport will be named after the city's founder Kempegowda, the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, today said. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly during question hour, he said the next Cabinet meeting will take a decision in this regard. Thereafter, the State Government would write a letter to the Centre seeking its consent, Mr Yeddyurappa said.
The Minister for Home, Mr R Ashoka, said the renaming would coincide with the 500th anniversary of the rule of Kempegowda. The issue was raised by Mr D.K. Shivakumar (Congress).
