Eastern Railway freight, passenger traffic up

Between April and January (2010-11), the Eastern Railway had handled 29.04 million tonnes (mt) of coal compared with 28.40 mt in the same period of the previous year, according to ER sources.

During the period, ER's total freight traffic was 44.24 mt (43.11 mt) and the earnings from freight traffic amounted to Rs 2,604.82 crore (Rs 2,577.33 crore).

In the first 10 months of the current fiscal, the ER handled 92.58 crore passengers compared with 84.11 crore in the same period last fiscal, the sources added.
