Prince Charles visited the public sector Cochin Shipyard Ltd on Tuesday and had a close look at INS Vikrant , the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier under construction there.
Commodore K. Subramaniam, Chairman and Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard, and Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, received the Prince.
Prince Charles, who spent nearly one-and-a-half hours at the yard, appreciated the efforts of the company in the construction of the aircraft carrier and inspected the contribution made by Mactaggart Scott of the UK to the deck edge lifts for aircraft.
The Prince was briefed about the strong business and commercial ties between Cochin Shipyard and the UK-based firms.
Prince Charles was impressed with the involvement of women workers at the shipyard and interacted with them and other senior officials of the company.
