American airliner United Airlines has suspended its flight connecting New Delhi to New York’s Newark airport for two weeks from Friday.
The airline’s non-stop flight connecting Mumbai to Newark airport will continue to operate.
In a statement on its website, the airline said that the suspension of the Delhi flight is due to seasonal winds and the continued closure of the Pakistani airspace.
The suspension is also because of the airline’s need to meet the flying-time requirements of its crew.
“(We) will continue to closely monitor this situation and remain in contact with the US government authorities and our international partners. We’re also reaching out directly to our customers booked on these flights to provide alternative travel options, including rebooking on other airlines or offering full refunds,” a statement by the airline said.
The closure of Pakistan air space since the end of February has increased the flying time between India and other parts of Europe and the US.
Sources say that the New Delhi-Vienna flight — which is normally about seven- hours long — is now over 10 hours.
