The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged for nationalisation of all rivers in the country. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, suggesting measures for consideration in the ensuing budget, chamber secretary, Mr P. T. K. A. Balasubramanian, said nationalisation is necessary to boost production of foodgrains and solve drinking water problem in the country. The suggestions, include installation of solar cells with announcement of a subsidy in all homes, industries and business places, drilling of new oil wells in East and West coastline, lowering of tax rates on petrol by State and Union Government and desist from levy of cess on agricultural goods by State governments.
