The Palakkad division of Southern Railway has constructed retaining walls between Mangalore Junction station and Thokur in Mangalore.
Piyush Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, said this while speaking at the 58th Railway Week celebrations in Palakkad on Tuesday.
A press release said here that the retaining walls have been constructed with the aim to avoid land slips during monsoon.
Track-doubling
Added to this, the track-doubling between Mangalore Junction and Netravati section in Mangalore has been completed.
The release said that lighting facilities have been provided in the 590-metre-long tunnel on Padil-Thokur section in Mangalore to ensure safety inside the tunnel.
Other facilities
On the other facilities in Mangalore, the release said that two additional water hydrants have been commissioned at Mangalore Central and Mangalore Junction stations.
An electronic in-motion rail weigh bridge facility has been commissioned at Panambur yard in New Mangalore, it said.
Rail coach factory
On the other developments in the Palakkad division, the release said that 230.10 acres have been taken over from the Kerala Government at Kanjikode for setting up of a rail coach factory.
The overall earnings of the division stood at Rs 878.46 crore during 2012-13, a growth of 32 per cent. The division also achieved the highest-ever freight loading of 7.068 million tonnes.
The overall punctuality of mail, express and passenger trains during 2012-13 was 96 per cent against the Railway Board’s target of 95 per cent, it said.
To ensure the safety of train operations, the division has taken measures such as holding of safety seminars, night inspections, and construction of road-over-bridges, the release added.
