Citing power shortage, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has announced load-shedding in the city and extended the power-cut already in force in other parts of the state to three hours a day from today.

“Despite Tamil Nadu buying power from other states spending Rs 50 crore per day, power shortage existed in the state. This shortage is expected to continue for some more weeks,” the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, a subsidiary of the State Electricity Board, said in a release here today.

“Therefore it has been decided to extend the existing power-cut from two hours per day to three hours in domestic consumption in Tamil Nadu. Chennai, which witnessed no power cut so far, will experience a one-hour load-shedding during the day time,” it said.

Power generated from wind mills is expected to increase in the coming weeks, the release said.
