The West Bengal Finance Minster, Mr Amit Mitra, on Thursday said that a Finance Bill containing tax proposals will be introduced in the ongoing Budget Session of the Legislative Assembly.
“We will bring in a Finance Bill during the ongoing session of the Assembly. Let us see what the Bill contains,” Mr Mitra told newsperson outside the State Legislative Assembly. The Bill is likely to be presented on August 29.
New tax proposals?
The Finance Bill will be routed through the Business Advisory Committee of Legislative Assembly before being placed for discussion by the members.
A Finance Bill is generally introduced in the Assembly in case of amendment of an Act or if new tax proposals are made by the Government.
Mr Mitra, meanwhile, added that a decision to hike excise duty on IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and online lottery has already been taken. “We have escalated excise duties through introduction of rule. It’s an administrative exercise and did not require the assent of the Assembly,” he said.
