The former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Tuesday thanked the West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, for proposing his candidature for the Presidential election. In his letter to the Chief Minster, Dr Kalam, thanked her for “ceaseless efforts” and praised her “great leadership quality of ‘graceful politics.”
Praising Ms Banerjee for her firmness towards the “cause of the nation” and “determination to sacrifice golden political throne,” Dr Kalam expressed his regret for disappointing her.
“It is known that history is written only by courageous leaders. I am extremely sorry for the disappointment I have caused to you,” he said.
Ms Banerjee in her response expressed gratitude for the sentiments put forward by the former President.
Thanking Kalam, Banerjee said she was “deeply touched, obliged and overwhelmed” with the sentiments expressed in his letter.
