The Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, today parried questions on the Government forming a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum scam of 2008. “I have already spoken to members [leaders of political parties]. You will have to wait,” Mr Mukherjee told reporters after releasing a book on Federalism and Fiscal Transfers in India .
The book is authored by Dr C. Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and Mr D.K. Srivastava, Director, Madras School of Economics.
The Finance Minister's remarks comes on a day when speculation was rife in the Capital that the Government may give in to the Opposition's demand for a JPC so as to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming Budget session. The Budget session is slated to begin on February 21.
