The four-phased urban local bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to begin on October 8. The second phase of the polls is scheduled on October 10, the third phase on October 13 and the last phase on October 16. Counting of votes will be done on October 20. As many as 2,990 candidates are in the fray. The National Conference and People's Democratic Party have boycotted the polls over the challenge to the validity of Article 35-A of the Constitution.

A Delhi court is to hear on Monday a plea by the Enforcement Directorate seeking custodial interrogation of Karti Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis case. The court is also scheduled to hear Karti's anticipatory bail application on Monday. The court has directed the ED not to take any coercive action against Karti till October 8.
