ADP India is planning to hire about 1,000 people in 2011. This will take the total number of employees to 6,500 in its facilities in the country.

In Hyderabad, where it houses 4,000 employees, the company has begun scouting for space to seat the new hires in the financial year 2011-12 (July-June).

“We have been adding human resources at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40 per cent in the last five years,” Mr Shakti Sagar, Managing Director of ADP India, told Business Line .

ADP India is an arm of the $9 billion US-based ADP that offers IT-based payroll, tax compliance, pre-employment services and solutions for human resources-related issues.

Industry outlook

On the outlook for the IT industry for 2011-12, he said the country could achieve a growth rate of 16-18 per cent this year. He felt that India continued to offer geographical and strategic advantage to multinational companies. “There is a clear mindset change MNCs are looking at as part of their strategy. It is no longer just an outsourcing strategy,” he said.

On problems related to human resources, he said it was not enough to add numbers year on year. “One has to be cautious. Companies have to focus on adding value to customers by interacting with them. Offerings should go beyond completing a task. Slowdown or no slowdown, one should focus on value addition to show differentiation,” he said.

Manpower quality

Asked about quality of manpower, he said the focus on mugging in educational institutions was the cause for poor output. “Industry-academia association is not working well. We (the industry) should be able to help in preparing courses. We should also depute domain experts to teach,” he said.

Bulk of attrition in the industry takes place among employees with 2-4 years of experience. “We should look at this phenomenon carefully and take measures. There's not much attrition in the 0-2 years of experience bracket,” he observed.
