Amada Soft India, a subsidiary of Amada Corporation, Japan, plans to invest $13 million to set up a technical centre in Bangalore.

“The company has already bought eight acres of land in north Bangalore near the airport and will begin construction shortly,” said Mr Toshio Takagi, COO and Senior Managing Director, Amada Co.

“When the centre is completed in 2014, it is expected to service global clients from Bangalore,” he added.

In addition to the training centre, the company plans to centralise all its operations in India by housing a technical centre, show plaza (showroom) and research and development unit under one roof.

The company also has another subsidiary – Amada India – to address metal punching, bending and laser cutting needs of Indian companies.

Mr Takagi said in addition to the technical centre, the company is also expanding Amada India by opening more sales and service centres. It is expanding from four to eight sales and service centres and is also increasing its staff strength here.

The company through Amada Soft India is carrying out the innovative and fundamental research based development activities together with IIT Madras.

Currently, the company operates from 25,000 square feet software development facility located at IIT-Madras' research park in Chennai and provides software solutions and in-depth engineering, analytical and conceptual skills in addition to software programming.

“We have several employees who graduated from IITs and the development centre itself is located inside the newly opened IIT Madras Research Park,” said Dr Periasamy Thanapandi, Managing Director, Amada Soft India.

“Our primary focus is to support Amada in developing software solutions in the areas of computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM). We also specialise in areas like CAD for bending machines, robotics and factory automation,” he added.
