The Videocon Group Chairman, Mr Venugopal Dhoot, and his brother, Mr Rajkumar Dhoot, were questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the ongoing probe into allocation of spectrum.

The two were questioned as part of the investigating agencies' questioning the heads of the nine companies that were allotted spectrum in 2008.

The Dhoot brothers were said to have been confronted with documents about changing the authorised share capital to Rs 150 crore from Rs 1 lakh through an ordinary resolution passed in the extra-ordinary general meeting on August 27, 2007, which was the day preceding the date of submission of applications by the company.

The Comptroller and Auditor General in its report had alleged that Datacom Solutions, which later became Videocon Telecommunications, while submitting their application for the grant of 27 UAS licence on August 28, 2007, had “made a false claim of the paid-up capital of Rs 150 crore through company secretary although documents attached with indicated that the authorised share capital of the company as Rs 1 lakh only”.

The CBI has so far questioned several leading corporates including top brasses of various telecom companies, including Essar's Chief Executive Officer Mr Prashant Ruia, Reliance Infocomm's Chairman Mr Anil Ambani, and Unitech's Managing Director Mr Sanjay Chandra.
