Domain names will be in Indian languages from August 27 (Wednesday), according to Govind, Chief Executive Officer, National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and Chairman of .IN Registry.
Addressing the participants at the country’s first-ever International Domain Conference held here on Sunday, he said domain names with .Bharat will be in Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, Maithalai, Nepali, Boro, Dogri and Sindhi. Subsequently, domain names would be given in Bengali, Telugu, Gujarathi, Urdu, Tamil and Punjabi.
“We are committed to a multi-lingual Internet to connect people in every corner in India,” Govind said, adding that a multi-stake approach required in issues related to public policy and Internet resources.
