The new HP CEO, Mr Lee Apotheker, who is on a three-day visit to India, has said that India is the epicentre of technology development and R&D and India must develop technology for the Indian market.
“I see India becoming the third largest economy by 2020,” said Mr Apotheker, addressing a section of 2,000 employees at HP's Bangalore centre. This is the first time any HP chief executive has visited the country in 10 years, he said and promised that he would keep coming to India – signalling the growing importance of the country in HP's scheme of things.
On queries from employees that HP' salary is not in line with the Indian industry standards, Mr Apotheker gave a positive note indicating that things might improve.
Commenting on HP's long-term vision, Mr Apotheker, who recently took over from Mr Mark Hurd, said the company must innovate in everything - hardware, software development and applications.
Mr Apotheker's India visit also includes trips to Delhi and Mumbai.
