Aditya Birla-owned Idea Cellular is currently exploring tie ups with other handset makers to provide 3G-enabled handsets. The company is in talks with both major international brands and Indian handset makers in this regard.
Under the arrangement, Idea cellular would offer relevant upgrade plans for its 2G subscribers.
“Discussions are still in the nascent stage. We are exploring all the possible opportunities in this regard,” Mr Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea, said. He, however, did not mention the names of the handset makers Idea were in talks with in this regard.
Idea, currently, has a subscriber base of 90 million and has recently launched its 3G services in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (West), UP (East) , Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.
