PC maker Lenovo has launched a new line of desktops and notebooks aimed at small and medium businesses.

And in order to reach out to this segment, it will increase its presence in smaller towns through resellers and retail outlets this fiscal.

Lenovo wants to shift to a higher gear in addressing the needs of SMB users in India. Estimates show that 20,000 medium-size businesses and over than a million SOHO (small office home office) and small businesses are willing to make PC purchases, Mr Rajiv Rao, Director – SMB, Lenovo India, said.

As part of its SMB push, the company has unveiled a range of desktops and notebooks – 10 products in all – that are suited to the needs of such businesses.

The notebooks and desktops start from price points of Rs 23,000 and Rs 22,000, respectively.

“For instance, SMB customers do not typically want to replace their products every two years and hence the products must have longer lifecycles. These products are also more rugged, in terms of their capacity to withstand shocks,” Mr Rao said.

The new SMB-oriented computing range will be supported by an increased reach in smaller cities and towns. So far, the company had reseller presence in six cities (and 20 cities through affiliates of resellers) to sell its SMB portfolio, but it now plans to increase that to over 200 cities this fiscal.

“On the consumer side, we have plans to reach 1,000 retail outlets, and leverage over 200 of them also for SME sales,” he said.

Meanwhile, the company will launch its tablets (Lenovo IdeaPad and ThinkPad Tablet) in India this fiscal, but is yet to decide on the pricing.
