Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday notified dual tariffs for commercial subscribers of cable TV services which include hotels and hospitals among others.
TRAI was asked to bring out a tariff order as per directions of the Supreme Court. While ordinary subscribers consume TV services domestically, commercial subscribers obtain TV services for the benefit of their or customers at their customer establishment.
The authority has said that the commercial establishments who do not specifically charge its clients or guests for offering TV programmes as part of their services, are to be treated as ordinary subscribers.
Charges would be based on per TV basis.
“In cases where commercial establishments specifically charge its clients or guests on account of providing or showing television programmes, the tariff would be as mutually agreed upon by the broadcaster and the commercial subscriber,” TRAI said in a statement.
Better businessThe authority said that the tariff order will help streamlining the distribution of TV services to commercial subscribers.
It also hoped commercial subscribers will now get TV signals at competitive rates besides bringing in transparency in business transactions.
Tariffs for commercial subscribers have been under judicial scrutiny since 2005.
