Google is looking to expand its accurate flood prediction services in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources in India. Addressing the fourth edition of the Google for India event here, Anitha Vijayakumar, Technical Project Manager, TensorFlow, said the company had tied up with the Ministry of Water Resources for an accurate flood prediction and warning system, using artificial intelligence and machine learning and had piloted the projected in areas prone to flooding.

"The initial work is promising," Vijayakumar said, and added that it could be extended to many parts of India. This comes at a time when the country is facing extreme weather conditions and flooding in many parts, resulting in death. The tech giant is exploring how the service can be made available and accessible to everybody. Apart from this, Vijayakumar said AI could be used to track deforestation and the healthcare space.

Gayathri Rajan, Vice-President, Geo, said the Google Maps Go services would now have turn-by-turn navigation functionality. Google Maps is also adding better public transport guidance, which would inform riders of upcoming stops and alerts on when to get off. Google Maps has partnered with RedBus to give more information on intercity bus ticketing service, with more 20,000 routes and 1,500 cities.
