Apple Inc., which is building a huge campus in Hyderabad, has acquired TupleJump, a machine- learning technology company based in Hyderabad.
A source in the US-based company has confirmed the development, which took place a few months ago. The target company has taken down its website following the acquisition.
Both Apple and the founders of TupleJump are tight-lipped about the acquisition.
Responding to a BusinessLine query on the size of the deal and how many employees it might get through the buy-out, Apple said: “We buy smaller technology companies from time to time. We generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” it said.
Founders join Apple Subsequent to the acquisition two of the founders — Satyaprakash Buddhavarapu (Chief Technology Officer) and Rohit Rai (Chief Executive Officer) — joined Apple, in May.
Interestingly, both the founders worked for Hyderabad-based Pramati Technologies. They worked for over six years in various roles before setting up the start-up in 2013 with a staff of less than 50, near the Madhapur IT hub.
TupleJump, a three-year-old start-up, focused on a niche data mining and analysis platform. It helps firms in unifying and optimising workflows for data scientists, engineers and analysts, giving a novel approach to data processing and reporting.
Apple announced big plans for India earlier this year. Its Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook, was in Hyderabad to open a new office for the development of Maps for Apple products, including its flagship iPhone. The centre is expected to house over 4,000 people in the next few years.
