Bose will soon launch an ‘in-ear’ headphone in September noise-cancelling ‘in-ear’ earphones for silence-seekers priced at Rs 22,388.

Nearly 700 brands sell around 6,000 headphones in India in various price range. However, the QuietComfort 20 earphones will be one of the most expensive ‘in-ear’ headsets in the country.

The new headphone benefits from over 30 years of research in noise reduction technology, and integrate more US patents than any Bose headphone every made, said a company official.

“There is definitely a market for such expensive headphones in India,” according to Ratish Pandey, Director, Bose India. “It is meant for people who look for quality.”.

But, why is the earphone so expensive? Bose engineers first placed two tiny, microphones in each ear bud – one senses the sound approaching and the other measures the sound inside. The measurements are then sent to a digital electronic chip located in the control module found on the earphone cord. This chip – exclusive to Bose and the first of its kind – calculates an equal and opposite noise cancellation signal within a millisecond. The resulting noise is so dramatic.

The American privately held corporation has launched its Soundlink Mini-Bluetooth speaker (priced at Rs 16,200) and also its AE2W Bluetooth headphones (Rs 19,013).
