Citizen centric e-Governance platform e-Swaraj was launched in Bagalkot on Wednesday.

The private initiative is an online platform consisting of mobile and web technologies. It creates an intelligent system which will facilitate real time reporting of local issues, automatically mapping the complaint to submitter’s constituency and routing the complaint to the administrative office concerned for effective resolution.

eSwaraj is a property of Jan Setu, a non-government organization created by IT professionals seeking to establish an apolitical, independent, and easy-to-use technology platform to bridge citizen-government gap.

The platform will also provide a forum where government can communicate its programs, its development records, and seek feedback from citizens on a regular basis.

S R Patil, Karnataka Minister for IT, BT, Science and Technology, Planning and Statistics launched eSwaraj at Bagalkot in north Karnataka.

Explaining eSwaraj, Vaibhav Sinha, Trustee at Jan Setu said it assimilates user information provided by citizens across India on civic issues to deliver easy to understand reports. It is aimed at increasing accountability and transparency in local governance. By providing location-wise data to the administration showing where the problems lie, they can use to plan service delivery in better manner.

The platform also gives local leaders an opportunity to get information about civic issues first hand from the electorate.

“Technology initiatives are the need of the hour for faster issue reporting and resolution, at scale, in India. We are committed to provide best in-class technologies to Government which would help them to plan and disseminate services in a better manner. Today’s launch in Bagalkot is an important milestone for us. Subsequently, our service would will be provided in rest of Karnataka as well,” explained Sinha.
